Hornell Police make major drug bust

Multiple felony charges and no bail after traffic stop

After a lengthy investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics in the City of Hornell, the Hornell Police Department arrested Adam S. Craig age 29 of 136 Newport St. Brooklyn, NY and James L. Pitts Jr. age 26 of 59 John St. of Hornell.

Both men have been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree (A-1 Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (B Felony 2 counts) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor). Mr. Craig and Mr. Pitts were arrested after a traffic stop on East Avenue Ext. in Hornell at about 4:54pm yesterday(May 13).

Hornell Police allegedly found the duo in possession of a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl, and prescription drugs. Officers also seized a large quantity of cash during the traffic stop. Further investigation led to the recovery of over one pound of cocaine and over one pound of marihuana, suspected to have been possessed by Craig and Pitts at 59 John St. Both men were also charged with Endangering the Welfare of Child as a child less than 17 years of age was present in the residence where illegal drug activity was occurring.

Mr. Craig and Mr. Pitts were remanded to Steuben County Jail with no bail after their arraignment. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

The investigation was headed by Sgt./Inv. Tom Aini who was assisted by Sgt. Ryan Harrison, Officer Tim Thurston and Officer Andy Merring.
