Assistant Principal Eli Marcus charged with 8 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Superintendent Jeremy Palotti charged with Failure to Report and Official Misconduct

Stunning news from the Hornell school district. Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker announced today that two school administrators have been charged. Eli Marcus is an Assistant Principal for seventh and eighth grades. He was indicted on ten counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Baker said those counts were connected with searches of students for contraband. The allegations date back to 2020.

Jeremy Palotti is the district Superintendent. He was indicted on two counts of official misconduct and failing to make a required to the New York Child Abuse Hotline.

Baker said the victims were female students.

Baker clarified his comments about the nature of the offenses:

“There were no allegations of ‘fondling.”

No School Resource Officers were ever present during the searches.
