Marjorie Taylor-Greene will headline the upcoming NY Young Republicans gala
NEW YORK, NY – Today, New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay S. Jacobs called on Lee Zeldin to immediately condemn the New York Young Republicans for selecting known extremists Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jack Posobiec to headline their 110th Annual Gala hosted by the New York Young Republican Club, a group that Zeldin formally joined as a member earlier this year. Both Greene and Posobiec have ties to white supremacist organizations and anti-government militia groups and have espoused hate-filled rhetoric that places them on the fringe of the far-right movement.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is notorious for pushing dangerous conspiracy theories, including questioning whether a plane flew into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, suggesting that a 2018 wildfire in California was caused by a space laser owned by a Jewish family, claiming in multiple social media posts that several school shooting massacres were “false flag” operations, and staunchly supporting and promoting Qanon’s dangerous, baseless claims.
Jack Posobiec is a far-right commentator on the One America News Network (OANN), which has been dropped by all major cable outlets. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Posobiec “has collaborated with white supremacists, neo-fascists, and antisemites for years, while producing propaganda that Trump and his inner circle have publicly celebrated.”
The New York Young Republican Club has promoted similar hate-filled authoritarian rhetoric globally, most notably at CPAC Hungary, where members joined “openly racist” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, claiming America First conservatives “demand nothing short of an American Orbánism.” Just last week, Orbán was condemned for giving a “pure Nazi speech” where he “insisted that his country must maintain racial purity.” “As a member of the New York Young Republican Club, Lee Zeldin needs to immediately condemn Marjorie Taylor Green and Jack Posobiec’s attendance at the New York Young Republican gala,” said Chairman Jay S. Jacobs. “Lee Zeldin ought to know that extremists who promote dangerous, xenophobic conspiracy theories have no place in our state. If he had any backbone, he would condemn their attendance at any political forum in the Empire State.”
