Hornell Public Library’s November Glass Artists: Martin Vogt & Garrett McGowan

Reception, Friday November 18, is open to the public

The upstairs of the Hornell Public Library is a sight to behold with the works of local glass artists currently on display. For November, local artist Martin Vogt’s and Alfred University Professor Dr. Garrett McGowan’s glass artworks are on exhibit at the library. The library’s director and staff are thrilled to be surrounded by these stunning glass pieces that demonstrate the importance of creativity and the arts in our community.

In April, the library hosted a celebration of the International Year of Glass with glass artworks that were displayed by Alfred University students and faculty member Dr. Garrett McGowan. As the year comes to a close, the library is celebrating once more the talent of our skilled local artists and their breathtaking glass pieces. Vogt has a diverse selection of his stained-glass pieces on display, including small and large framed glass designs, lanterns, and ornaments. Some of his stained-glass pieces are even uniquely framed within old snowshoes and wooden rackets. McGowan’s selection of glass vases, orbs, and ornaments on display have gorgeous colorways and unique designs that perfectly capture the beauty and wonders of glassmaking.

A reception in honor of Vogt and McGowan will be held on Friday, November 18th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. It is open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Martin Vogt has donated two pieces for a raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk before the event and on the night of the reception. They are one for $5 or three for $10. Many of the artworks on display are also available for sale. Come visit the library throughout November to peruse through these beautiful glass artworks and see if you can find any potential holiday presents!

The library’s open hours are Monday-Thursday 12:00 PM-7:00 PM, Fridays 1:00 PM-5:00 PM, and Saturdays 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The library will be closed Friday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day and Thursday, November 24th for Thanksgiving.
