Duane C. Cansdale Jr arrested for twelve serious crimes over three day period

On September 29, 2023, troopers from SP Wayland responded to 1790 State Route 63 in the town of Wayland to assist the Wayland Fire Department with a structure fire. It was determined through an investigation that the tenant, Duane C. Cansdale Jr., age 30, of Wayland, NY, intentionally started open fires on the trailer floor regularly for warmth. After the trailer caught on fire, Cansdale Jr. left the scene before the Fire Department and Law Enforcement arrived. Cansdale Jr. was charged with Arson 4th (E Felony), Arson 5th (A Misdemeanor), and Reckless Endangerment of Property (B Misdemeanor).

On September 30, 2023, troopers from SP Wayland responded to a report of an Order of Protection Violation at 123 Lincoln St, in the village of Wayland. During the investigation, it was discovered that Cansdale Jr. arrived at the residence where a Stay Away Order of Protection was in effect. While at the residence, Cansdale Jr. verbally argued with the resident and physically took a dog from the residence. Troopers located Cansdale Jr. in the area with the dog in his possession and refused to comply with the troopers’ commands. While walking away from troopers, Cansdale Jr. continued to pull the dog down the street with a choke collar so forcefully that it caused the animal to vomit multiple times. Cansdale Jr. was charged with Aggravated Criminal Contempt (D Felony), Aggravated Family Offense (E Felony), Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (E Felony), ), Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor), Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd (A Misdemeanor), and Criminal Trespass 3rd (B Misdemeanor.
 
On October 1, 2023, Cansdale Jr. was observed by a witness retrieving belongings from the burned-down trailer at 1790 State Route 63 in the town of Wayland with a protected party of a Stay Away Order of Protection. Cansdale Jr. was charged with Aggravated Criminal Contempt (D Felony) and Aggravated Family Offense (E Felony).

On November 17, 2023, Cansdale Jr. was transported from Steuben County Jail to SP Bath for processing. Cansdale was then returned to the Jail to await his next court appearance.
