We are so excited to introduce Justin Recktenwald as our new Lead Winemaker.
From Point of the Bluff,
Justin joined the team in 2021 as an assistant winemaker, bringing with him many years of experience in minimal intervention winemaking. A local to the Finger Lakes region, he has devoted the majority of his career in winemaking to the region and surrounding viticultural areas and is a graduate of Cornell University’s Food Science program focusing in Viticulture & Enology. Throughout a decade-long journey within the industry, Justin earned his credentials at some iconic Finger Lakes wineries, as well as a pioneering wine production in California, and also hugely contributed to the minimal intervention winemaking movement in New York with his own boutique production and brand.
“A rare opportunity has been presented to me here at Point of the Bluff,” Justin notes, “The vineyard site on the bluff–the southward facing slope, the soil composition, the proximity to the lake, the sun and wind exposure, and the varietal selection–it’s arguably the best site in the Finger Lakes! I’m so excited to explore the potential of this land and the very, very real possibility of producing a uniquely specific wine that raises the bar for excellence. The team at Point of the Bluff is highly accomplished and highly motivated, and I aim to grow alongside these fantastic, super talented people and expect my winemaking approach to compliment the high quality experience that is Point of the Bluff.”
