Fighting for restoration of proposed $60 million cut and increase investment in the CHIPS program

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C-Corning) met with local highway superintendents in Albany today to highlight the need to restore and increase funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS). Last month, Palmesano, Sen. Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and their colleagues in their respective Assembly and Senate Republican Conferences sent a letter to Gov. Hochul and legislative leaders calling on them to restore the $60 million proposed cut by Gov. Hochul and add an additional $200 million to the critically important and successful CHIPS program.
“As I have always said, local roads matter and are essential. The CHIPS program is vital to maintaining our local roads, bridges and culverts. It was great to meet with our local highway superintendents who traveled up to Albany from the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes Region to show their support for the CHIPS program and fight back against the governor’s proposed cuts that would be devastating to local municipalities across New York state,” said Palmesano.
