From the City of Hornell,

During their February 2024 meeting, the Board of Public Safety recognized Officer Andrew Koehler for outstanding service.  The Board reviewed commendations from both Sergeant Ryan Harrison, as well as Chief Ted Murray, highlighting Officer Koehler’s exceptional actions.

Chief Murray noted in his recognition, “I would like to recognize Officer Andrew Koehler for his outstanding duty while working the desk to resolve a call from a distressed resident.” In a recent incident that lasted over 50 minutes, Officer Koehler was able to obtain the location of a resident who called for assistance, while managing the radio traffic and attending to other incoming calls. Chief Murray further noted, “So often desk duties go unnoticed but it is exemplified by this case as an important element of our department’s crime fighting abilities.”

Officer Koehler was recognized, in addition to Officers Donovan and McDaniels for their response in de-escalating a situation, while taking a suspect into custody, and ultimately bringing about a peaceful resolution to the incident.

Mayor John Buckley also expressed gratitude, stating, “We appreciate Officer Koehler’s efforts to resolve the situation, alongside Officers Donovan and McDaniels. The Hornell community is fortunate to have the dedication and professionalism of our police officers. We commend their service, both in their day-to-day responsibilities and in challenging situations.”
