John F. Lynch of Painted Post, NY, passed away on Monday January 17, 2022, in Corning NY. John was born in Hornell, NY, on August 19, 1929, the son of the late Michael V. and Rose (Manley) Lynch. In 1956, John married Lucille J. Ludden who predeceased him in 1976. In 1979, he married Sally Gilbert Lynch, who survives.
John attended Andover Central School and enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 attaining the rank of SP4. Upon discharge, Mr. Lynch worked for the gas pipeline industry for Joyce Western Co., Corning National Fuel, Otis Eastern, and other contractors around Western New York. He owned Lynch and Sons based in Addison NY from 1972 to 1980. He later worked for Lynch Paving in Wellsville, NY. He plowed snow and mowed lawns in the late 1990’s and owned the Pine Tree Motel in Andover from 1983 to 2003.
Mr. Lynch was a member of the American Legion Lynch-Burdette Post 397, of Andover and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1495, of Wellsville, NY. All of Andover enjoyed seeing John during parades in his silver 1963 Buick Riviera. In retirement, he was often seen sitting at the corner in Hilton waving to passing cars and talking with passersby. He was quick to remind everyone that he was the best looking out of all his siblings.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Sally are two sons, Chris Lynch of Avon and Brian (Sue) Lynch of CT; three step children, Kim (LaVonne) Gilbert of Elmira, Karen Reed of Corning, and Kevin (Linda) Gilbert of Florida; nine grandchildren, Justin (Danielle) Lynch of Washington State, Amber Lynch of Corning, Megan (Hojo) Hojnoski of Elmira, Tabatha Reed of Corning, Felicia (Luke) Thomas of Greece, Mark Gilbert of Florida, Mike Gilbert of Florida, T. J. (Missy) Miller of Ohio, and Jessica Miller of North Carolina; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Dick Lynch of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers George Lynch and Dan Lynch; four sisters, Margaret Lynch, Jean Lynch, Ceceilia (Bill) Dugan, and Rosemary Lynch; and one grandchild, James Gilbert of Rochester NY.
Friends may call Friday from 7-9 pm, Friday, January 21, 2022, at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church.
