The weather has been bitter cold out side but the two hottest teams in Steuben County were heating up the gymnasium in Avoca Saturday as the #1 Class D2 in the state rankings hosted Canisteo-Greenwood.

The first game the two matched up was all the Avoca-Prattsburgh could handle as they escaped with a 5-point win.

In a packed house the game started out to be just like the first matchup with neither team able to make any substantial lead in the first half as A-P took a narrow 45-41 lead into the locker room.

The second half was a different story as A-P started to limit the amount of looks at the basket for C-G as they cleaned up the glass and were able to get several steals to start the third period. The A-P lead increased to 60-48 to end the third period.

Canisteo-Greenwood attempted to make a rally in the fourth but with several turn overs and limited shots due to the full court pressure put on by Coach Brian Putnam.

The keys to the win for A-P was clearly the rebounding effort by junior Sawyer Devoe (20 points, 4 assists) with 19 and junior Haden Abbott with 13 rebounds for the game

Sophomore Macoy Putnam had 7 assists and 4 steal to go along with 17 points on the afternoon.

Avoca-Prattsburgh (13-0) was lead by one of the areas most prolific all-around players in Section V as Pacey Hopkins scored 33 points with 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

Canisteo was lead by Cole Ferris with 22 and Hunter McCaffery with 18 points respectfully.

AP next will make the trip down I-86 to Campbell-Savona on the 26th and Canisteo-Greenwood host Bolivar-Richburg Monday evening.
