ALFRED, NY, January 28, 2022– Alfred State College (ASC) students are creating and sending dream cards to local students hoping to inspire the next generation.

In a collaborative project between the Cultural Life Center and the Office of Civic Engagement, students are creating dream cards to spread messages of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each card will feature a quote from Dr. King and an Alfred State themed gift from the bookstore. Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Desmond Davis will distribute the cards to the students at Hornell Concern for Youth.

Davis hopes the project will inspire the students that receive the cards. “This idea that Jonathan Hilsher (Director of Civic Engagement) and I had, is really rooted in Dr. King‘s consistent message that he gave to young people. Often, King encouraged young people to never lose their sense of ‘Somebodiness’. We have noticed many of our student’s stories consist of somebody taking interest in them – and that being a major factor for success. With that thought, we decided to encourage our local community and share some A-State love with the young people in the surrounding area, so hopefully they remember that they are indeed somebody, and we see them.”
