If Hunter McCaffery was tired from scoring his 1,000th career point last week, he didn’t show it Tuesday. The senior scored a game-high 27 points as Canisteo-Greenwood picked up a 75-46 road win over Jasper-Troupsburg.

Canisteo-Greenwood is 11-5 and Coach Brad Hoyt put together the perfect schedule to prepare for the C1 sectionals and hopefully a shot at the No. 1 undefeated charter school, Rochester Academy (13-0). C-G has lost twice to the #1 team in the state in Class D, Avoca-Prattsburgh, each time giving the undefeated A-P team a scare, and three losses to Class B Hornell, Wayland-Cohocton and Wellsville.

“We played a tougher non-league schedule this year to hopefully get us better prepared for sectionals.,” Hoyt said. “We played Hornell, Way-Co, Wellsville twice and Bolivar-Richburg twice. We had several tight games this year which we hope will help us down the stretch.”

Cole Ferris had six for C-G as 10 players scored. Hoyt talked about that leadership and overall unselfish play by Canisteo-Greenwood this season.

“Having Cole and Hunter as leaders definitely helps. They push their teammates to make everyone better player. It’s nice to stand back sometimes and just let them play,” Hoyt said. “We can have a different high scorer on any given night. Some nights it’s Hunter and some nights it’s Cole. Mason (Boyd) can also drop 20 in a hurry.

“One of our biggest assets is our role players. Maddux (Schwartz) goes out each night and just harasses whom ever he is guarding,” Hoyt continued. “Evan plays good ‘D’ as well and has become a better rebounder. All of our players know their role and do it well. They are a fun group to be around.”

Boyd finished with 10 and drained two three-pointers while Schwartz had eight.

For J-T, junior Cash Bouton scored a team-high 19 and senior Colby Cornish scored 16.
