The 2022 Steuben County JV Boys and Girls basketball tournament tip off Monday evening after taking a year off when COVID cancelled the 2021 tournament and ended the season.

Second seeded Canisteo-Greenwood took to the floor to hosting the No. 7 seeded Eagles of Alfred Almond.

It was very quick to see why Canisteo-Greenwood is the second seeded JV team in the county as they jumped on top of the Eagles early in the first quarter with a 22-2 advantage at the end of the first period.

Finding themselves down by 20 points to start the second, the Eagles had to start chipping away at the deficit by winning the second quarter but still trailing CG 31-13. Leading the Eagles in the first half was Jackson Jusianiec with 4 and for CG Klees with 8 points.

After halftime AA shook off the cobwebs and continued to play tough basketball as each team scored 10 in the quarter, as Jackson Jusianiec found his long range shooting touch knocking down three 3-pointers to keep Alfred Almond fighting to stay in the winners bracket of the county tournament.

With the fast start in the first quarter the Redskins took their lead into the 4th quarter and finished the game with a 53-36 victory and will take to the court again tonight at 5:45 p.m. hosting Avoca-Prattsburgh.

The Eagles will be headed down I-86 to Campbell-Savona.
