Steuben County Sheriff makes major arrests

A fugitive from justice was apprehended by the department this week

Steuben County Sheriff James Allard reports that between March 13th and March 17th, 2022, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested two persons for impaired or intoxicated driving:

March 13, 2022

A male, age 49, of Airport Road, Hornell, New York, is alleged to have operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition on County Route 66, in the Town of Hornellsville. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, and Failure to Dim his Headlights. He was was issued on traffic summons to appear in the Town of Hornellsville Court.

March 17th, 2022

A male, age 50, of Freeman Hollow Road, Bath, New York, is alleged to have operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition on State Route 415, in the Village of Savona. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, and Failure to Keep Right. He was released on traffic summons to appear in the Village of Savona Court.

Aggravated Family Offense, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Mischief.

Steuben County Sheriff James Allard reports that on March 16th, 2022, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to Alexander Street, in Avoca, New York, for a report of a domestic dispute. Pursuant to an investigation, April F. Gay, age 44, of Alexander Street, Avoca, New York, was charged with the felony of Aggravated Family Offense, and the misdemeanors of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Mischief 4th degree. It is alleged that Mrs. Gay engaged in a physical altercation with members of her household, including a minor child, and did damage property. Mrs. Gay was arraigned before the Centralized Arraignment Court, and was subsequently released on her own recognizance to reappear at a later date.

Criminal Possession of Property, Criminal Mischief, and Fugitive from Justice

Steuben County Sheriff James Allard reports that on March 14th, 2022, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a larceny in progress in the vicinity of County Route 99, in the Town of Woodhull. Deputies located Donald J. VanOrsdale, age 46, of Allen Road, Woodhull, New York, allegedly in possession of a stolen tractor and stolen building materials. Further investigation revealed that Mr. VanOrsdale was wanted as a Parole Absconder out of the state of Pennsylvania. Mr. VanOrsdale was charged with the felonies of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, and as a Fugitive from Justice as a Parole Absconder. Further charges are expected pending the completion of the investigation. Mr. VanOrsdale was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and is being held without bail in the Steuben County Jail.
