The Hornell boys and girls track teams had a strong meet on Tuesday with Livonia.

Coming up on May 6 is one of the best invitationals in the state, the Hornell Invitational. Teams include Addison, Alfred-Almond, Allegany-Linestone (Section VI), Arkport-Canaseraga, Avoca-Prattsubrgh, Bath-Haverling, Bolivar-Richburg, Canisteo-Greenwood, Cuba-Rushford, Dansville, Franklinville-Ellicottville (Section VI), Hammondsport, Jasper-Troupsburg, McQuaid, North Tonawanda (Section VI), Salamanca (Section VI), Southwestern (Section VI), Penn Yan, Pal-Mac, Wayland-Cohocton and Wellsville.

“We have some great talent on the squad, specifically junior veteran Elaina Flaitz and new eighth-grader Selena Maldonado,” said Damian DeMarco, Hornell High School Girls’ Track and Field Coach. “Both took three firsts and a second yesterday against Livonia. They are multi-talented, and we are using this regular season to put them in as many possible events possible to improve our chances for earning a trip to the state meet.”

Mary Wolf, the shot and discus coach said, ā€œThe throwers performed well tonight, the guys finished with the top three spots for disc, with Kenny Graham pulling out the top spot with a throw of 105’ 10ā€, Evan Clair came out with the top spot in shot with a throw of 35’7ā€, the girls are improving at each meet and tonight was no different, Makayla Kriner just missed placing in the shot by 4 inches, I have been impressed with the athletes growth and look forward to continued improvement from the team as a whole.ā€
