Two of the three arrests committed crimes while in the Steuben County Jail

May 25, 2022 Assault Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on May 24, 2022, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shane M. Wood, age 33, of West Morris Street, Bath, New York following a report of an assault in the Steuben County Jail. It is alleged that Mr. Wood, a current inmate, caused serious physical injury to another person incarcerated in the jail. The victim required medical treatment outside the jail facility and was treated and returned to the jail. Mr. Wood was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony. Mr. Wood was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the jail.

May 27, 2022 Criminal Mischief Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on May 25, 2022, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tianna K. Decker, age 26, of Beeman Hollow Road, Addison, New York, following a report of an inmate breaking a window in the Steuben County Jail. It is alleged that Ms. Decker, a current inmate, intentionally damaged property in the jail. Ms. Decker was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a class E Felony. Ms. Decker was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the jail.

May 27, 2022 Larceny, Controlled Substance, Warrant Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on May 25, 2022, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jackson D. Welfel, age 23, of Lormore Street, Elmira, New York, following a report of a person stealing items from a retail center in Erwin. It is alleged that Mr. Welfel stole approximately $60 worth of retail items. It is further alleged that Mr. Welfel possessed a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine and was wanted on warrants from both the City of Corning and Village of Bath. Mr. Welfel was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Mr. Welfel was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court for the new charges and the warrants and was released.
