The June meeting of the town board was an unusually long session that lasted nearly three hours. Several community members came to speak and first up were representatives of Alfred University who presented their plans for improving what is known as the Jericho Hill playing fields. They explained their intention to improve the existing grass field, construct a turf football field with a track, and a baseball field. This will be completed in phases with the expectation that they will have funding within the next year to move forward with phase one. A public hearing and a permit will be required before work can begin. Plans are at the town website for the community to see.

Next up were residents of Terbury Road to complain about the shooting range on that road. The neighbors were unhappy with the amount and time of day that shooting goes on. A compromise was reached with the owner that a good-faith effort would be made to have no shooting past 7:30 in the evening.

Residents of Waterwells Road were present to speak about the state of mobile homes on that road. They reported that the grass is not mowed, and the side of one building is not enclosed. Both are violations of our property maintenance code. The board will send the Code Enforcement Officer to investigate the situation.

Next the board considered the Host Community Agreement presented by Delaware River Solar LLC, the company that is developing a 5 MW solar project on Jericho Hill Road, County Route 12. Our attorney recommended approval of the agreement and it was passed unanimously.

A representative of Northland Power zoomed into the meeting to discuss an upcoming meeting with the town and an open house for the community. They are developing a proposed 100 MW solar project on McAndrews Road. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday June 22, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Alfred Station Fire Hall. The community is encouraged to attend and learn more about this proposed project.

The monthly meeting was preceded by a public hearing held to get comments from the community on a proposed six-month moratorium on microwave emitting installations. There were no comments at the public hearing and the board passed a resolution adopting the moratorium.
