Joel Hernandez (Weber International) and Wyatt Metzger (Bloomsburg) each collected two hits but the Hornell Steamers couldn’t get the offense completely going in a 8-1 loss at Olean on Tuesday evening.

Hornell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA) scored on a sac fly by Roland Ryan (Trevecca Nazarene).

The Oilers answered with two runs of their own in the first. They added to their lead with four runs in the 5th highlighted by a three-run homer by Mitchell Grosch.

Olean added a pair of insurance runs in the 8th.

Hernandez finished the day 2 for 2 with a walk while Metzger was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk.

Grosh finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI while Grayson Walker earned the win allowing just the first inning run in six innings of work. The Oiler bullpen did not let up a hit in the final three innings.

Hornell continues their road trip on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader vs. the Rochester Ridgemen in Webster.
