Hornell Steamers fall to Dansville Gliders

Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI but the Dansville Gliders held off the Hornell Steamers 9-6 on Monday night.

Dansville scored a pair of runs in the 1st and added an unearned run in the 4th to jump out to the early lead. In the 5th, Joel Hernandez (Webber International) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Paxton Hughes (Trevecca Nazarene) followed with a RBI single. 

The Gliders built back the lead to 8-2 with two in the 6th and three more in the 7th. Hornell didn’t go away and scored two in the bottom of the 7th. Hughes collected a RBI single and Hernandez scored on a wild pitch.

Dansville scored an important insurance run in the 8th as the Steamers put together a rally in the 9th. Hughes led off with a walk, Bryson Rigsby (Webster) was hit by a pitch, and Johnson followed with a two-run triple to right center. With the tying run on deck, James Feriolli was able to induce two fly outs and a groundout to close the contest.

Johnson led the Steamers with a 3 for 4 day while Hughes was 2 for 4.

Shane Wockley was 3 for 4 with a RBI while Alfred Hoti was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Johnny Briody also finished with three hits.

Dansville used five different pitchers. Caleb Clements didn’t allow a hit in the first three innings while Ivan Navarro worked 1.2 innings and got the Gliders out of a jam.

Braden Consaul (Fairport/USC Upstate) allowed three earned runs in six innings of work for Hornell.

Hornell continues their weeklong homestand tomorrow when they host Cortland in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
