Five Steamers to play in all-star game

Brody Burdett playing for Alfred State is on the team

Five members of the Hornell Steamers are heading to the NYCBL All-Star game tomorrow. Colton Burd (Indiana U of PA), Brody Burdett (Alfred State), Paxton Hughes (Trevecca Nazarene), Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA), and Bryson Rigsby (Webster) will see action in the game.

Burd is hitting .286 (28 for 98) on the season. He has eight doubles, four homers, and 22 RBI. He has scored 20 times and has been a mainstay behind the plate for the squad.

Burdett was chosen as a pitcher even though he is hitting .289 with 14 RBI on the season. On the mound, he has made 12 appearances and is 4-0 with five saves. He has a 2.34 ERA in 30.2 innings of work. He has allowed just 22 hits and eight runs while walking just five and striking out 36.

Hughes leads the Steamers with 30 RBI on the year. He is hitting .323 (31 for 96) with nine doubles and two triples. He has scored 19 times and has spent time at 2B, 3B, and SS.

Johnson is hitting .302 (29 for 96) with a double, two triples, and two homers. He has driven in 16 and scored 27 times. Johnson has played 2B, 3B, and SS this summer.

Rigsby, who has played mostly outfield, is hitting .282 (24 for 85). He has four doubles and four RBI. He has 25 times, drawn 32 bases on balls, and has a team high 15 stolen bases.

Jordyn Smith (Oklahoma Wesleyan) will also head to SUNY Cortland to participate in the pre-game workout.

First pitch of the 2022 All-Star game is at 3 p.m.
