The second online-only Steuben County Delinquent Real Property Tax Auction of the year is set for Oct. 5 – 12.
County legislators approved the dates for the auction during a special meeting of the county Legislature’s Finance Committee Monday.
The decision by the committee to continue on-line only auctions follows a successful tax auction in mid-June which allowed Steuben to host an auction for more than one day without the need to arrange a fully staffed physical site.
Steuben officials maintain the purpose of the county auction is to recover back taxes and put the properties back on the tax rolls, not to seize property. The County has long provided multiple ways for delinquent property owners to recover their property prior to the point of foreclosure sale.
County Finance Deputy Commissioner Mitch Alger said specific details on the auction and number of parcels up for bid will be made public by mid-September.
