BATH – Transportation’s significant role in Steuben County will be spotlighted during Local History Awareness Week from 9 am to 5 pm Oct. 4 – 8 at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum, 8231 Pleasant Valley Road Hammondsport.
The event will center on aspects of the county’s strong and varied history of transportation with guides from local historical societies at the museum present to assist visitors and groups and to answer questions.
Speakers on the important role of transportation in Steuben include:
6 pm, Oct. 6: William Burt will speak on Steuben County’s Railroads: The First Century. 6 pm, Oct. 7: Kirk House will present on Pioneer Women in Aviation.
Both lectures will be held in the Taylor Room at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum.
The Finale of the week’s events will be on Oct. 8th with a free bus tour leaving from the Finger Lakes Boating Museum at 10 am and returning at 4:30 pm.
The tour will stop at sites related to transportation around the county and also includes an event- fundraising raffle basket filled with travel necessities.
