If you don’t love Hammondsport NY, you are in a very small minority. The village situated at the south end of beautiful Keuka Lake has many unique elements that make for a great place to live, or visit.

Recently, Best Life magazine took notice and named Hammondsport to a list of the ten best places in the United States for nostalgia. Read the exerpt from the magazine on Hammondsport:

“If you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls, you know that one of the key elements of the fictional small town setting of Stars Hollow is its town square anchored by a gazebo. That’s exactly the setup in Hammondsport, New York, located on the southern end of Keuka Lake (one of the 11 Finger Lakes). Stephanie Goodwin, accounts director of McCue PR and a Hammondsport native, says that this “turn-of-the-century bandstand gazebo” even hosts live bands during the summer.

The town square is surrounded by historic buildings from the early 19th and 20th centuries. “In fact, visitors can stay and eat at the recently renovated hotel and restaurant, The Park Inn, the oldest building on the square, [which] was originally built in 1828 and has served as a tavern and inn since 1861,” says Goodwin. She also recommends having breakfast or ice cream at Crooked Lake Ice Cream Company. “You can still grab an ice cream cone at the historic wooden bar.”

While the iconic gazebo gets lots of the attention, the historic wineries should have been mentioned. Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery just celebrated six decades of internationally acclaimed winemaking. Tourists travel from all over the world to visit and taste the home of the vinifera wines. Bully Hill Winery, with roots going back to the birth of the NYS wine industry, is also just outside of the village. Like “Dr. Frank’s,” Bully Hill overlooks the lake and hillside grape vineyards. While the wine is fun, what really sets Bully Hilly apart is the restaurant; perhaps the best in the entire region.

We could go on and on about Hammondsport NY. From the small town trancendence to the deep blue waters of Keuka Lake, to the internationally famous wineries: Congratulations Hammondsport!! If you haven’t visited lately, the fall season is the best mix of scenery.
