The “Concealed Carry Improvement Act” stands, but on shakey ground

By Andrew Harris

The rollercoaster ride of new gun legislation and court rulings has been hard follow. NY has passed laws, appeals courts and the US Supreme Court uphold, then strike down, and just yesterday another twist.

The conservative court ruled that the controversial law, which in essence limits the locations that a legal concealed weapon may carried, is enforceable. A temporary win for Governor Kathy Hochul, as the most conservative opinions from the Supreme Court bluntly acknowledged that the ruling was procedural and that the court will welcome future challenges.

Governor Kathy Hochul issued this statement:

“Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority. I’m pleased that this Supreme Court order will allow us to continue enforcing the gun laws we put in place to do just that. We believe that these thoughtful, sensible regulations will help to prevent gun violence, and we will keep working with the New York Attorney General’s office on protecting the laws.”
