Free “Microsoft Word for Beginners” Class at the Hornell Public Library

The Hornell Public Library is launching its 2023 technology programming with a “Microsoft Word for Beginners” class! The class is free and intended to help people learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Word. It is scheduled for January 25th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will be taught by the library’s community partner Ed Flaitz of Ed’s Computer Technologies. Ed has 30 years of experience working in the technology industry, and his expertise will be a great resource to share with library patrons as they learn the basics of Microsoft Word.

Laptops will be provided for patrons to use during the session and Ed will provide handout materials that participants can refer to as they learn more about Microsoft Word. Patrons are welcome to bring their own laptops to use as long as they have Microsoft Word installed.

This class is limited to 10 seats, so call the library at 607-324-1210 to register now!

This training session is made possible by an Outreach Mini-Grant funded by the STLS Coordinated Outreach Services Advisory Committee. This grant was created to help member libraries of the Southern Tier Library System strengthen services to targeted outreach populations. The Hornell Public Library is committed to expanding its current technology education and assistance programming options for the community, especially for underserved groups. The library applied for the grant to fund “beginner” level courses for Microsoft Word and Excel that would benefit Senior citizens, unemployed and underemployed individuals, as well as those who are educationally disadvantaged. Word and Excel are two very popular applications that will be useful for people to develop skills in, whether it be for personal use or adding another skill to their resume!

The library plans to offer an Excel training in early February 2023, and may potentially offer repeat sessions for both Word and Excel in the following months if patrons express an interest in attending these types of classes.

If you have any ideas or requests for future technology programs at the library, reach out to them via phone, email (hornellpubliclibrary@gmail.com), Facebook, or stop in at the library!

The Hornell Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Follow the library on Facebook and Instagram and check out their website for the latest news on library programs and events.
