DANSVILLE – Trailing by just a single point late in overtime, Dansville’s Aynsley Belcher scored the game-winning basket with less than a second left in the extra session as Host Dansville overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to earn the 44-43 come-from-behind victory over Hornell Friday night in LCAA D-I action.
The six-foot junior Belcher finished with a monster game scoring a game-high 25 points while grabbing 15 rebounds.
Hornell had taken the 43-42 lead with 3.9 seconds left in overtime but Belcher’s heroics late, off a Dansville time-out by head coach Arin Belden, would finish it.
Also for Dansville, Chelsie Tyler added 10 points with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists while Taylor Hamsher added five points with two boards. Kali Meyer added four points and four steals while Emma Allen grabbed six rebounds and blocked a shot.
Hornell was led by freshman Jordan Dyring with 18 points and five rebounds while Lillian Hoyt dropped in 15 points.
Also for the Lady Raiders, Selena Maldonado had 10 rebounds and eight assists while Maddie Moore added seven points and six boards.
Dansville improved to 9-4 on the season as the Mustangs will host Newark Tuesday night in a non-league match-up.
Hornell fell to 7-6 on the season.
“This was a really tough loss for us,” Hornell coach Brian Dyring said. “We battled for the entire time but once again assignment breakdowns and missed shots from close range really hurt us.”
Dansville will visit Hornell Feb. 10.
