ASC Swimming & Diving teams win AMCC Championships

The Alfred State swimming and diving teams pose on the championship stand after winning the AMCC championship.

Both the Alfred State men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams won AMCC Championships. The men’s team also claimed the overall team title for the Allegheny Empire Championship.

The men’s team led throughout the four-day competition and repeated as the champion. Westin Perry (Hartsville, NY/Canisteo Greenwood – Computer Engineering) was named the Swimmer of the Meet for both the AMCC and the overall meet while Connor Compton (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna – Heavy Equipment Operations) was named Diver of the Meet for both the AMCC and the overall meet.

Perry had a huge meet as he won individual titles in three events (200 free – 1:41.22, 100 back – 49.82, and 100 free – 45.56) and was part of four winning relay teams (200 medley relay – 1:31.68, 800 free relay – 6:56.78, 400 medley relay – 3:23.69, and 400 free relay – 3:04.27).

Compton won both the 1m and 3m diving competitions. He scored 504.95 points on the 3m board and 488.95 points on the 1m board. Compton has qualified for the NCAA Division Regionals (2/24-25) at Ithaca College.

In the men’s standings, Alfred scored 1,232 points to finish ahead of Alfred University (967.5) in the overall standings and Penn State Behrend (891) in the AMCC standings. Overall, the men’s team won 13 of the 20 events in the championship.

Alyssa James (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon – Graphic Design) was named the AMCC Swimmer of the Meet while Anna Ivery (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee – Nursing) was named the AMCC Newcomer of the week.

James won the 100 back (1:00.98) and was part of the winning 400 medley relay team (4:02.03) while Ivery won the 50 free (24.54). Overall, the ASC women’s team won four events in the meet.

The women’s team scored 831 points to win the AMCC title and finish second in the overall standings. Penn State Behrend was the AMCC runner-up with 830 points while Nazareth won the Empire 8 and overall title with 1,181.5 points.

The women’s championship came down to the final event, the 400 free relay. The Pioneers team of Madison Snayczuk (Machias, NY/Pioneer – Veterinary Technology), Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias, NY/Pioneer – Human Services Management), Mallory O’Keefe (Brighton, CO/Stargate Charter – Forensic Science), and Ivery finished second (3:38.36) two spots of Behrend to clinch the title.

Alfred State head coach Isabel Mariotti was named the Allegheny Empire 8 Championship Men’s Coach of the Year and was named the AMCC Women’s Co-Coach of the Year.

This is the second AMCC championship for both teams and Alfred State has now claimed four AMCC titles during the 2023-23 school year (volleyball and wrestling).
