Lots of new and exciting things are happening in Canaseraga where Allegany, Steuben, and Livingston counties come together. This past weekend was the grand opening of Canaseraga Thrift and Farmers Market located at 63 Main Street in the old Hardware building. The building is owned and is being renovated by Brian and Kristina Lowelry. It is a beautiful historic building and Brian plans to rent out the upstairs of the building as well. He showed me an old elevator that operates with ropes and pulleys that he plans to have working. The Canaseraga Thrift and Farmers Market will be open Friday through Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.
Kathie Berry is a Canaseraga native who gardens and cans. She has been involved with the Farmers Market over the last 11 years. For the last 6 years, they have been located in the Hardware store. She sells local honey and syrup too.
Locals have joined the market with handmade quilts, and baby items, as well as antiques and second-hand items. Located in the back of the building is Think Pink With Sonya. She sells brand-new women’s, children, and baby’s clothes. She is open on Saturday and Sunday.
Licensed Massage Therapist, Sue Schneider, is set up to give chair massages for $1 a minute. I took advantage of my trip to Canaseraga and sat in the chair for 10 minutes of bliss.
A variety of baked goods are available at the market. Live music is provided each week by Pat Donovan. He has invited musicians to join him and jam. He has a sound system set up.
Across the Street getting ready for their grand opening this coming weekend is The Canaseraga Soup and Coffee Company, “The Pot Shop”. Josie and Jason are excited to share their newly renovated spot and the great menu that they have created. The soups will change seasonally. The winter menu includes French Onion, Chicken Noodle, Chili, and Butternut Squash Bisque. They offer panini sandwiches, baked goods, and Finger Lakes Coffee. They specialize in Expresso. They are offering flights of soups so you can try them and choose your favorite!
Rumor has it that there are other new entrepreneurs planning to open businesses on Main Street. Canaseraga is close to Swain Ski Resort which brings a lot of folks to the area. Stay tuned as we watch this little community come to life!
