Belmont man arrested for involuntary, criminally negligent homicide

Narcotics are involved, released with appearance ticket

Taz Cain also charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance

NY State Police reported the arrest of a Belmont man for three criminal offenses, two of which are serious felonies.

Taz Cain, 28, of Belmont NY was charged with:

Felony Criminally Negligent Homicide, 1 count

Felony Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, 1 count

Misdemeanor Acting in a Manner Injurous to a Child under 17 years

Last week Cain was arrested by NYS Police in Independence NY for use of drug paraphernalia and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class A misdemeanors. He was released with an appearance ticket.

Earlier in 2023, Wellsville Village Police arrested Cain on a warrant, presumably for a 2017 arrest but that is not confirmed. On January 31, WPD reported:

Wellsville Police, acting on a Bench Warrant issued by the Wellsville Village Court, arrested Taz J. Cain, age 28 of Belmont, for failure to appear in Court on previous AUO 2nd and other Vehicle and Traffic charges. Cain was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. Cain was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court on February 7th at 4:30 pm.

Timeline:

January 31, arrested on a warrant in Wellsville NY for failure to appear in court. Released on his own recognizance.

March 20, arrested on narcotics charges in Independence NY, released on his own recognizance.

March 25, arrested for narcotics related death in Belmont NY, released on his own recognizance.
