From Kate Martelle, owner Martelle Dance Academy

Oh my goodness my heart is so full! I can’t adequately describe my feelings for this weekend. Watching my kiddos take the stage at Legacy Dance Championships with such confidence and energy made me so proud. My heart about came out of my chest each time I watched them perform.

These kids only had 8 weeks to prepare for their very first competition! Meeting once a week for an hour for trios and 30 minutes for our duet and solo. They could not have represented MDA better! I literally had other owners come up and say “this is your first competition and you’re winning full categories?!” I loved meeting and becoming friends with some of the other owners who were so sweet and welcoming to me and my dancers.

All of our entries placed in overalls!

2 First place Overall Placements

1 Second Place Overall Placement

1 Third Place Overall Placement

Overall placements are for age groups within a category. We were in Novice which is a beginner level for dancers with little to no competitive experience.

Medals are awarded as Silver, High Silver, Gold, Elite Gold and Platinum as the highest.

-Junior Acro Duet “Unstoppable”

•Platinum Medal

•1st place overall out of 3 in Junior Novice Duet/Trio Category

•Judges Award for “Excellent Partnering”

-Markessa Senior Solo “Can’t Pretend”

•Elite Gold Medal

•1st Place Overall out of 3 in Novice Senior Solo Category

•Judges Award for “Living in the Moment”

-Mini Lyrical Trio “Friends Forever”

These dancers have grown immensely in the past 8 weeks and I can’t wait to see what they do next season! You can see their winning performances live at our recital in June!

Thank you to my awesome staff, Kaitlyn DeAnn for all your hard work these last 8 weeks! I appreciate you more than you know! And thank you to Markessa Drake who assisted our team while also preparing for her own solo. You were incredible this weekend!
