Hoyt’s pitching, Evingham’s hitting leads Hornell to big Section V softball playoff victory (story and Steve Harrison photos)

The Hornell Red Raiders softball team has played an outstanding schedule and it paid off in the first round of the Section V Class B1 sectionals.

Hornell knocked off Palmyra-Macedon, 9-3.

Hornell opened up the scoring in the first inning when Ireland Harrison singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

The Red Raiders took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. Sophia Harwood singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, Parker Graham singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Lillian Hoyt singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The NY Landquest team are big fans!!!

Hoyt earned the win, throwing seven solid innings with five strike outs, scattered five hits and gave up three runs.

Hornell had 12 hits as Raegan Evingham had a huge game going 3-for-4 and Harrison, Hoyt, and Graham each racked up multiple hits.

Next up is #1 Waterloo.
