Hornell downs Hitmen 10-0, home opener tonight!

The Steamers take on the Rapids tonight!

The Hornell Steamers ended their season opening six game roadtrip with a 10-0 victory over the Horseheads Hitmen on Friday evening. 

The Steamers scored in five of the seven innings of the game. They started quickly with three in the 1st, when Luca Ciaramitaro (Siena) collected a two-run single and Matt Wessels (Iona) collected a RBI single.

In the 2nd, Eli Brown (Youngstown State) scored on a wild pitch and Ciaramitaro plated another run on a fielder’s choice.

Wessels and Danny Melendez (Finger Lakes CC) executed a double steal in the 3rd to make it 6-0. Wessels had a RBI single while Jason Story (Utica) and Brown drew bases loaded walks in the 5th to make it 9-0.

Ciaramitaro collected his fourth RBI of the game in the 7th on another fielder’s choice to make it 10-0.

Xavier Garrity (Webster) allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out five in five innings to earn the win. Tre Slawson (Keuka) allowed three hits and struck out four in two innings of work.

DJ Stoianovich (Finger Lakes CC) was 3 for 5 while Wessels finished 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. The Steamers collected nine hits and drew 13 walks.

Hornell hosts the Genesee Rapids on Saturday evening (7 p.m.) in their home opener at Maple City Park.
