The Steamers fall short in a 40-run game

Hornell and Dansville played a wild contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Gliders took the 22-18 decision in a game that featured 31 hits and 26 walks.

Hornell jumped out to a 6-0 lead but Dansville rallied and tied it up with two in the 1st and four in the 2nd. Hornell took their final lead of the game in the 3rd with a pair of runs highlighted by a solo homer by Luca Ciaramitaro (Siena).

Dansville plated three in the 4th, two in the 5th, six in the 6th to build a 16-8 lead. The Steamers did not back down and scored four in the 7th. After the Gliders scored one in the 7th, Hornell scored two more in the 8th and stranded the bases loaded.

The Gliders added four to their lead in the 8th but once again, Hornell threatened to get back in the game. Jason Story (Utica) hit a two-run pinch hit homer to highlight a four-run 9th inning. The tying run was on deck when Dansville was able to record the final out.

DJ Stoainovich (Finger Lakes CC) was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI while Ciaramitaro finished 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. The Steamers collected 13 hits, 17 walks, and were hit by five pitches but stranded 17 runners.

Hornell has Thursday off before heading to Horseheads on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. contest with the Hitmen.
