Hornell Steamers continue to roll, big win over Dansville

Steamers have won five of the last six games, home game tonight at 7pm

The Hornell Steamers scored ten runs in the 1st inning and never looked back as they ran their winning streak to five games with a 16-4 victory over the Dansville Gliders at Maple City Park on Thursday.

After getting out of a jam in the 1st, Hornell sent 14 batters to plate and scored ten runs. Jason Story (Utica) doubled and scored on a Glider error. Robert Chesney (Central Connecticut) collected a RBI single two batters later, Tyler Curtis (Fredonia) doubled in two runs, and Ryan Hill (Mercyhurst) followed with a RBI single. Story hit a RBI single and Tim Burns (Maine Presque Isle) cleared the bases with a three run double. Chesney capped the inning with a RBI double. 

In the 2nd, DJ Stoianovich (Finger Lakes CC) scored on a wild pitch before Burns hit a long double off the top of the fence to make it 13-0. 

Shanley Wall collected a RBI single in the 3rd to get Dansville on the board but Tim McClare (Brockport) and Hill collected RBI singles to answer.

Stoaianovich hit a sac fly in the 4th to cap the scoring.

Dansville collected a RBI single by Gabe Williams in the 5th, a RBI fielder’s choice by Jimmy Kerley in the 7th and a RBI single by Cameron Abele in the 7th.

Stoainovich was 3 for 3 with a RBI to lead the Steamers 17 hit attack. Burns finished 2 for 5 with 5 RBI, Hill was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, and Story, Justin Swanson (North Park) Chesney, and Curtis all collected two hits.

Xavier Garrity (Webster) each the win with five innings of work. He allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. Newcomer Bobby Bartlett (North Park) worked the final two innings to close out the game in seven innings.

Wall was 4 for 4 for Dansville while Abele was 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Hornell evens the season series with Dansville at 2-2. The Steamers offense has been on fire scoring 99 runs in their last six (5-1 record) games.

Hornell hosts Horseheads on Friday at 7 p.m.
