Weather allowed for a Thursday doubleheader

The Olean Oilers took both games of a Western Division doubleheader on Thursday. They won 18-12 in the completion of the suspended game from Monday and then took a 9-1 decision in the nightcap.
In the completion of the suspended game from Monday. Olean had scored four in the 1st and three in the 2nd to build a 7-0 lead. In the 3rd, Tim Burns (Maine Presque Isle) and Justin Swanson (North Park) collected RBI singles before the rain came in the top of the 4th to suspend the game.
The Oilers kept it going in the top of the 4th when they plated seven more runs to build a 14-2 lead. Noah Brooks (Siena) made it 14-3 with a RBI double in the 5th before Hornell put together a big 6th inning.
In the 6th, Jason Story (Utica) collected a two RBI single and Burns followed with a three-run line shot homer to left. Hornell loaded the bases and got one more run on a fielding error but couldn’t get any closer.
Olean used a three run homer by Chase Fisher to highlight a four-run 7th to build back their lead to 18-9.
In the 7th, Burns hit his second homer of the game and 6th of the season to make it 18-11. Swanson followed with a long triple and scored on a RBI groundout by Robert Chesney (Central Connecticut).
Burns finished 3 for 5 with the two homers and 6 RBI while Swanson was 3 for 5 with a RBI. Story was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and Brooks was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.
In the nightcap, Olean scored a pair of unearned runs in the 1st inning but Zach Morse (Alfred State) kept them off the board for the next four innings. Hornell scored on a Story single in the 5th to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Oilers put the game out of reach with a seven run 6th inning keyed by a two-run single by Thomas Bates and a two-run single by Chase Fisher.
Story was the lone Steamer with multiple hits finishing 3 for 4 in the game.
The Steamers have Friday off before heading to Olean on Saturday for a 7 p.m. (please note new time) contest with the Oilers.
