The FBI and the United States Secret Service have joined the New York State Police in an investigation after a self-inflicted shooting incident by a male outside UR Medicine St. James Hospital Emergency Room on Monday, the Hornell Sun and Wellsville Sun have learned.

After a week-long investigation by the Sun, police confirmed a 19-year-old male and Steuben County resident, parked his large SUV in the employee parking lot of the hospital.

The male allegedly shot himself in his vehicle, according to family members, then walked to the right of the building where ambulances unload patients and is an employee entrance, about 30 yards from the public entrance. He was assisted by an emergency room employee in the parking lot.

Where the incident took place

The Sun had it confirmed he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot himself in the neck and an employee witnessed the incident. He was alive and taken by a medical helicopter to a Rochester-area hospital.

When troopers arrived on the scene, they allegedly found a manifesto in his vehicle with names in it. It was described it as a “hit list,” and it allegedly included New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul and Vice President Kamala Harris, and that information was confirmed by police officials.

The United States Secret Service became involved at this point. A search warrant of his home was issued and investigators allegedly found bomb-making devices.

The Sun has reached out to St. James Hospital President and CEO Wendy Disbrow and UR Medicine media staff for comment.

Disbrow sent an email to employees this week which was obtained by the Sun. The email did not go into incident details, but said the emergency room staff was traumatized on Monday and to keep that in mind this week. There was also information in the email for employees who needed counseling after the incident.

The Sun has also reached out to state police public information officers for more details and an update on the case.
