Deputies were responding to a call for service, bicyclist injured

From the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department,

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on August 5, 2023, at about 3:15am, deputies and investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a collision between a bicyclist and a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Vehicle on State Route 415 in Bath. It was reported that a bicyclist was travelling north-westerly in the driving lane of State Route 415 when it was struck from the rear by a deputy responding to a call for service. The bicyclist was alert and responsive at the scene, and taken by EMS for treatment at a regional medical center. Sheriff Allard requested the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit respond to investigate the collision. Their investigation is on-going.

Sheriff Allard would like to remind all cyclists to make sure that they are in full compliance with required lights and reflective equipment in accordance with NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law when operating after sunset. Our thoughts and prayers are for the speedy recovery of the cyclist.
