Wegmans has already taken proactive steps
From the USDA,
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has raised a public health alert in regard to Jamaican Jerk-style chicken products distributed by Wegmans.
The alert, announced on Friday evening, is prompted by concerns over potential mislabeling and the presence of undisclosed allergens.
In particular, the marinade used in these chicken products may contain allergens such as milk, soy, and wheat. These allergens have not been accurately indicated on the product labels.
Wegmans has taken the proactive step of addressing the issue, attributing a potential equipment malfunction as the source of possible cross-contamination leading to the presence of these undisclosed allergens.
The products under scrutiny were manufactured on August 16, 2023. They encompass 1-lb. vacuum-packed packages of “Wegmans Jamaican jerk style Chicken Thighs” and “Wegmans Jamaican jerk style Chicken Breast Cutlets,” all of which bear a use-by date of “9/6/23.” These items have been distributed across retail outlets in the states of Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.
At present, there have been no confirmed instances of adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products. For further inquiries or concerns, consumers are urged to contact Wegmans Customer Care at 1-800-934-6267.
