Care Coordinators and local providers presented resources and learning opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their supporters as part of a free event series

HORNELL, NY (August 17, 2023) – On August 17, Person Centered Services held its first Care Connection Day at The Main Place in Hornell, NY. Care Coordinators from Person Centered Services, who connect people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to care, support and opportunities, gathered with local providers for a day of learning and networking.

Alicia Fellows, Executive Director of Person Centered Services, gave motivational opening remarks at the event. Sal Garozzo, Chief Executive Officer of The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler then delivered an inspiring keynote address. He focused on what he called “The Age of a Life Reimagined,” when new approaches to disability services will lead to better outcomes and more fulfilling lives.

Breakout sessions and a panel discussion provided fantastic learning opportunities for attendees. Topics included human rights, sexual wellbeing, self-direction, and dual diagnoses for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Providers on-site included ACCES-VR, The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler, The Arc Allegany-Steuben, AIM Independent Living Center, People Inc., Person Centered Services, and more. They presented community resources as they networked with Care Coordinators and fellow providers.

“To celebrate the five-year anniversary of Person Centered Services, we put together a wide variety of events, one being our Care Connection Days,” said Alicia Fellows. “They remind us that we’re a team and we’re all in this together – that’s how we change lives.”

Upcoming Care Connection Days will be held at St. Bonaventure University in Olean on September 21 and at Monroe Community College in Rochester on October 19. To learn more about opportunities hosted by Person Centered Services, visit personcenteredservices.com/events.
