The Hornell Red Raiders improve to 6-1 with a 2-0 shutout against the Avon Braves at home on Saturday night. After a scoreless first half, Wyatt Evingham connected on a cross from Jack Emo with just under 19 minutes left in the game for the first score of the night. Three minutes later, Emo landed one of his own to put the Raiders up 2-0.
“The boys played an excellent game against a strong Avon team,” commented head coach Jim Tobin. “Jack Emo and Wyatt Evingham scored two brilliant goals to secure the win.”
Sophomore goalie, Alfie Whiteley, had 5 saves on the night, and Hornell’s defense accumulated 4 blocks to earn the shutout. “Alfie made some incredible saves,” continued Tobin. “Our defenders were solid. Gennaro Picco, Cody Cardamone, Ryan Harkenrider, and Andrew Davis anchored the defense.”
Saturday’s win concluded a 5-game win streak in 10 days for the Red Raiders. After two consecutive wins on the road in Olean, the Raiders won three in a row at home. Hornell currently sits at #2 in LCAA division I standings with a 3-0 league record and are seeded #3 in Section V Class B standings.
The Red Raiders will host Wayland-Cohocton on Thursday night with a 6:30pm scheduled start.
