From Town of Alfred Supervisor Dan Acton,

The board set December 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Town Building, as the public hearing on the proposed Alfred University (AU) Saxon Fields on Jericho Hill, County Road 12. The community also may participate via Zoom. The public hearing is the next step in consideration of Alfred University’s application for a special use permit for this facility. Discussion of the application centered on sound levels, a tree row, site plan review, and traffic. It was agreed that AU would test the installed sound system to assure compliance with sound levels stated in the application. The plans were updated with visuals and a description of a tree row parallel to County Road 12. A site plan review completed by third party engineers made recommendations as to width of access roads, ADA compliant parking spaces, and location of fire hydrants all of which will be incorporated into the project. As to traffic, residents stated their unhappiness with existing traffic on Kenyon Road. Clark Patterson Lee traffic specialist Dave Hastings indicated that increased traffic from the facility would be far below the capacity of the road.

The board reached an agreement with Northland Power for the Host Community Agreement payments to the town from the proposed solar project on McAndrews Road. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024 and will provide modest credits on the electricity bills of residential town consumers.

The town bridge on Pine Street is expected to be completed in December of this year. In cooperation with Allegany County DPW engineer Tom Windus the Town was able to cover the approximately two-million-dollar cost with grants so that there was no cost to local taxpayers.
