NY State Police report fatal fire: Two dead, one dog also perished

State Police in Auburn are investigating a fatal residential fire at 11267 Drake Road in the town of Conquest, Cayuga County.

On November 21, 2023, at approximately 6:00 a.m., a neighbor observed flames coming from the residence and began to knock on the door to alert the residents, however, no one answered the door. The neighbor then called 911 to report the fire. 

When the fire departments arrived on the scene, they located a 56-year-old male and a 44-year-old woman deceased in the rear bedroom of the residence.  The Cayuga County Coroner responded to the scene and transported both decedents to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.

Also located inside the residence were three dogs, with one being deceased.  The other two dogs were taken to a local veterinarian for care. 

The Cayuga County Fire and State Fire responded to the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.  The preliminary investigation has determined the fire to be electrical in nature. 

The investigation is continuing.
