WAYLAND – Up tempo offense. Moving the ball, in and out, in and out.

And playing some outstanding, trapping, smothering defense.

That described the visiting York boys basketball team during their 73-33 victory over Wayland-Cohocton in LCAA crossover action Thursday night.

York jumped out to a lightning-quick 11-0 lead less than two minutes in, which included back-to-back threes by Jake Pangrazio, and some excellent trapping defense that forced the tempo.

The senior Pangrazio led the way with 17 points followed by classmates Joe Bauer and Tyler Brady with 16 and 12 points respectively.

Pangragio connected on four, 3-pointers.

Parker Bonafede and Liam Ezard both added eight points for the Golden Knights.

Way-Co (0-1) was led by Hunter Trischller with 14 points while Matthew Clark added nine.

York led after the first period 21-7 and 48-15 at the half.

“Our guys took a small step forward tonight defensively,” coach Orman said. “Our talk was a bit better than in the scrimmages, we still have a long way to go but it was a great start. This group is so unselfish and has such chemistry, they are a joy to be around. We have a heck of a challenge against Prattsburgh Saturday.”
York coach Eddie Orman Jr. kept it very classy coaching against his former player Brandon Davis as the Golden Knights did not play a starter after a few minutes into the third period.

“It was awesome to coach against Brandon, he is one of the most high-character kids, from one of the most high-character families I’ve ever coached,” coach Orman Said. “He’s going to do an amazing job there and has every trait you could ever dream of in a varsity coach. Wayland-Cohocton is so lucky to have him. I still have a losing record against him as he beat me twice in modified baseball last year. I wish him all the best though and look forward to competing against his teams and cheering for him when they aren’t playing us.”

York will take on defending NYS Class D champion Avoca/Prattsburgh during Saturday’s Wayland-Cohocton Hall of Fame Showcase.

Tip-Off for that dandy will be 4 p.m.
