From the City of Hornell,

The Board of Public Works accepted the bid from C.P. Ward in the amount of $885,000 for improvements at Veteran Memorial Park in a special session in November.

Mayor John Buckley reviewed the project and expressed enthusiasm for the upgrades, “We were very happy with the competitive bid for this project. The planned upgrades, which include refurbishing the tennis and basketball courts, as well as the installation of a splash pad, will significantly enhance our park. We are very excited for this project to move forward.”

The project involves resurfacing and replacing three of the four existing tennis courts, with the fourth court set to be converted into two pickleball courts. The basketball courts are also planned for a complete redesign and replacement. The addition of a splash pad, to replace the baby pool, is highly anticipated, appealing to park visitors of all ages. Construction is expected to start in the spring.

These upgrades at Veteran’s Memorial Park are in addition to new playground equipment planned for installation this spring.

Mayor Buckley emphasized the significance of parks in the community, stating, “Our parks serve as vital recreational spaces for our residents, contributing to the health and liveliness of our community. They also play a crucial role in attracting individuals to our city.”

The City of Hornell has collaborated with LaBella Associates for this project, and continues to engage with them for further upgrades, including those for the pool house, which will be pursued through a separate bid at a later date.
