Mobile device education and cyber security for parents

Looking for help with your phone or tablet? Want to know how to keep you and your family safe online? Then sign up today for the Hornell Public Library’s January technology classes!

All of the following workshops will be taught by Ed Flaitz of Ed’s Computer Technologies. He has over 30 years of experience working with technology and has a lot of valuable information to share with our community! Registration is required for all of the workshops due to limited space. Register today by calling the library at 607-324-1210 or sending an email to hornellpubliclibrary@gmail.com. Participants of each workshop will be entered into a free drawing for a $25 VISA Gift Card.

January 10th at 5 PM: Mobile Device Basics for Android Users

This workshop is best for those who have a new Android phone or tablet, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will help you get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using your device safely. Bring your Android phone or tablet, or come test out the library’s new Samsung tablets.

January 20th at 11 AM: Staying Safe Online: Cybersecurity for You & Your Family (Free Childcare for Participants at the Library!)

This workshop is geared towards parents and caregivers who want to learn more about cybersecurity. Come learn tips & tricks on how to keep you and your family safe, avoid scams, and use the internet responsibly. The library has partnered with the Hornell Family Resource Center who will be providing free childcare for anyone who registers and attends the workshop.

January 24th at 5 PM: Mobile Device Basics for iOS/Apple Users

This workshop is best for those who have a new iOS phone or tablet, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will help you get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using your device safely. Bring your iPhone or iPad, or come test out the library’s new iPads.

These workshops are made possible by the PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T. The Hornell Public Library is one of 215 public libraries nationwide awarded funding to conduct digital literacy workshops.

The Hornell Public Library is located at 64 Genesee Street, Hornell, NY. The library’s open hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
