“Our investigators and deputies were tasked with five death investigations”

It’s a beautiful day in Steuben County. Tomorrow is Groundhog Day and hopefully winter will be short-lived! All our maple syrup distillers will soon be busy as we continue to have cold nights and above freezing days. Our few peeks at sunshine right now are all the more precious, as we patiently wait for spring.

*editors note, Phil says winter is almost over!!

At the Sheriff’s Office, your public servants were busy again. In January WDNY Radio in Dansville, New York visited and donated stuffed animals to our Office to be given to children in need. Our Office was awarded the Innovative Program Award in Albany by the New York State Sheriff’s Institute for our EMT/Paramedic program. It was very humbling and rewarding to be recognized for yet another outstanding service provided by our Deputies and Officers. Sheriff Allard was also recognized and appointed as Vice Chair of the Sheriff’s Institute. The Sheriff’s Office hosted the New York State Course in Police Supervision, in partnership with SUNY Alfred, with students from Elmira to Livingston County along with our own Investigator Martin and Sergeant Wood. Our Corrections Division was busy conducting a Basic Course in Corrections for our part time Officers. We held an in-service training for our School Resource Deputies and a patrol division staff meeting.

January was another busy and challenging month in the Sheriff’s Office. Our investigators and deputies were tasked with five death investigations, four assault investigations, one possession of a weapon investigation, one burglary investigation, one trespass investigation, three terroristic threat investigations, two criminal contempt investigations, one resisting arrest investigation, one obstructing governmental administration investigation, three misuse of foodstamp investigations, one evidence tampering investigation, one endangering the welfare of a child investigation, five fire investigations, fourteen larceny investigations, seven grand larceny investigations, six harassment investigations, six welfare fraud investigations, five criminal mischief investigations, one bail jumping investigation, one animal cruelty investigation, one narcotics investigation, one missing person investigation, one jail contraband investigation and two fraud investigations. Our Patrol Division was tasked with multiple domestic incident investigations along with mental health detainments, emergency medical aid, assisting other agencies, serving of warrants, and one intoxicated or impaired driving arrests.

All of our deputies and officers performed in an outstanding fashion and we received a commendation from the public regarding their outstanding performance.

We continue to pray for our first responder colleagues and deployed military across the globe, as well as their families. We also pray for the victims of mass casualty events and state sponsored aggression.

Thank you for supporting the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office in these challenging times and stay safe!
