In the Section V Class B semifinals, the Wellsville Lions tried to slow down Hornell by shutting down Jordyn Dyring. It didn’t work because of a team effort and Dyring was able to play stellar defense and score.

In the Section V championship game on Saturday, Dying went down early with a non-contact injury and the Red Raiders had to play Dansville without one of their best players.

Dansville, already a great team, had an 11-9 lead after one, 18-15 at the half, but here comes Selena Maldonado.

In the third, Maldonado scored 10 points and Hornell closed the gap to one, 26-25. Her speed was evident and the momentum shifted so much, Hornell took an 8-point lead during the fourth quarter.

Coach Jim Dagon’s team withstood a late Dansville rally to win the title, 44-36.
