BATH – Juniors and seniors across Steuben County will be introduced to their legislators at 10 am Monday in the county Annex as participants in the county’s 40-year-old program intended to engage and inform the students about local services.

Since Youth In Government began in 1983, more than 1,300 high school juniors and seniors across Steuben have participated in the program which allows the interns to tour county agencies and meet with department heads.

The program concludes with a simulated legislative session during which the students present, debate and vote on resolutions.

Other action before the Steuben Legislature includes a proposal for a local workforce agency to receive funding.

Chemung-Schuyler-Steuben Workforce New York (CSS WFNY) is a local workforce development board established by the three counties to assist individuals with greater employment opportunities and provide businesses with an adequate labor pool.

The agency has a long and successful history of coordinating on-the-job training with businesses and leveraging NYS Department of Labor funding.

Steuben legislators will consider an $80,000 award to enable CSS WFNY to expand these training opportunities for local businesses and employees.

** The Steuben County Legislature will meet at 10 am Monday in the County Annex, 20. E. Morris St.
