Three decades of summer baseball in the Maple City !!

It is hard to believe the 2024 season is right around the corner (Opening Day is June 6) and that the organization will be celebrating 30 years of summer collegiate baseball in Hornell.

To reach such a milestone is quite an accomplishment and is testament to the people of this community. Those individuals that have served on the board of directors over the years, those families that have hosted players, and those that have faithfully attended games. The financial support of local businesses and organizations has also been key to the longevity of the team.

The board of directors would like to THANK the community for this support.

Did you know?

  • The Steamers organization has never had an owner and has been run by a group of volunteers since the team was formed.
  • The budget for the two-moth baseball season is approximately $60,000. Bus travel, league dues, equipment, and uniforms are just a few of our larger expenses.

When I moved to Hornell in 2001, the only two things that I knew about the area were that there was a Wegmans and that the Dodgers played at Maple City Park. I watched from my lawn chair the first summer but have been involved in pretty much every aspect of the team since then. I am proud of what we have accomplished and what we have provided for the community. I think the Steamer organization is a microcosm of what makes Hornell special.

As we plan for the upcoming season the board of directors asked me to provide our supporters with a few opportunities to help our organization.

  • Buy a Season Seat – season tickets cost $30
  • Open your home and become a host family – contact Steve DeSanto (607) 368-0237
  • Become a member of the board of directors – contact Paul Welker (607) 382-2664
  • Help the organization make sponsorship connections. 2024 Sponsorship opportunities
  • Volunteer in the concession stand – contact Bob Evans (607) 281-9343
  • Make or donate a postgame dinner for the team – contact Peggy Lynn Plank (607) 769-7517

Our team, coaches, players, and board of directors are excited about the upcoming season. We can’t wait to hear the umpire yell PLAY BALL on June 6.

See you at Maple City Park!
