“2023 Project of the Year”

The City of Hornell, consulting agency, LaBella Associates, and contractor, C.P. Ward Inc. were recently recognized by the Western New York branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for their outstanding work on the Union Square Park project. The City of Hornell, LaBella, and C.P. Ward received the 2023 Project of the Year Award in the structures less than $5 million category.

“This award promotes excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the partnership between the managing agency and participating consultants and contractors,” stated Daniel Seider, Director of the Western New York branch of APWA.

Completed this fall, Union Square Park is a welcomed addition to downtown Hornell. Residents and visitors enjoyed a wonderful “Christmas at the Square” event, and look forward to a bustling summer season of music and events at the park.

“We are thrilled with the completed Union Square Park project, and it’s great to see it recognized by the Western New York APWA branch. We have a lot of great projects happening, and our successful collaborations with our consultants and contractors are instrumental in bringing these projects to life,” Mayor John Buckley expressed.

The City of Hornell continues its valuable partnership with LaBella and C.P. Ward on several current projects, including the Streetscapes, Alleyway, Wayfinding, and Public Art project downtown, as well as the splash pad, tennis and basketball court project at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
